Seeing Spots

I was looking through a magazine featuring accessories from the SS14 runway shows, and someone asked me how fashion inspires me. I looked down at the page at a featured pump. It was pieced of patent leather and suede with spikes attached to the back. I looked to the shoe as an example and said, "Take this shoe as a dining room chair. You could upholster the seat and seat back in the patent leather, so that it's easy to clean. Cover the back of the chair in the suede and apply the spikes as a decorative touch to give it an edge."

Runway shows are a huge inspiration to me as an Interior Designer. But, really all of the shows are simply creative uses of fabrics, color and patterns. The accessories are where the real fun begins because they are creative uses of hardware applied to an outfit to complement the look. Similar to the way in which we use furniture and home furnishings to complement the look of a home.

I have been obsessed with Christian Louboutin's Pigalle Multi-Colored Spike Pump since Kylie Minogue snapped a photo of them on her Instagram. The funfetti inspired spikes are colorful, refreshing, delicate and yet, still tough.

I've taken this gorgeous shoe and looked for inspiration for the home. Polka-dots seem to be an under the radar trend right now. But, there are lots of way to sprinkle your life with dots - like a daisy patchwork throw or a table lamp adorned with strings of beads. Enjoy!
