Follow the Yellow Brick Road

In honor of all things Storybook, and inspired by re-interpretation a la Lady Gaga, here are some contemporary concepts of a yellow brick road for your consideration.

I shopped exclusively with Christopher Farr for these options. Farr is established as the source that revolutionized contemporary rug design. Working with their own designs and showcasing outside artists as well, their resources are rich in color, quality and design.

Above, is "Etch" by Kate Blee. Depending on how you look at this, it could quite literally translate into a section of yellow brick road. Here is some background information on Blee from Farr:

"Kate’s work is an exploration of colour relationships in the place where the colour meets and in the movement of colour through its medium. She looks for robustness both aesthetically and practically which allows the engagement with the work to be relaxed and confident, stimulating both visual and tactile senses.

Kate studied at Edinburgh College of Art between 1980 and 1984 and set up her studio in London in 1986. She has been involved in a wide range of art and design projects working for exhibitions, installations and commissions, and with architects and manufacturers."

Below, some more imaginative rugs inspired by The Wizard of Oz and the famed yellow brick road. Both "Northern Lights" and "Untitled - 855" reminded me of the spiral path in Munchkin Land where the yellow brick road begins. Full details are below.

Clockwise from top left: "Northern Lights" by Romero Gigli, "Untitled - Conf 112" by Josef Herman, "Untitled - 855" by Nancy Lorenz, and "Untitled - Conf 197" by Christopher Farr
