The Search for the Perfect Cereal Bowls

Moving into a new home is a great opportunity for a fresh start in the Kitchen. Especially when you've been living with the same dishes for over ten years.

My first set of dishes was given to me by my mom when I moved out to attend college in San Luis Obispo. When you think of college living, you probably picture a hand me down set of dishes with ramen on top. Fortunately for me, my mom puts great importance on dishes and my first set was a new, Tuscan inspired collection from Pier 1.

Halston

I do not have a Netflix account (yet), but find myself glued to documentaries whenever I am able to take advantage of a friends. Most recently, glued (or should I say draped?) onto Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston.

It's the story of American Fashion Designer Roy Halston Frowick and how he revolutionized the industry during his quick rise to fame in the nineteen seventies and eighties. It seems to be that every film centered around the disco era shines with decadent excess and ends in dark despair - consequences from the excess in fashion, drugs and sex. Halston's life was no exception.

Seeing Spots

I was looking through a magazine featuring accessories from the SS14 runway shows, and someone asked me how fashion inspires me. I looked down at the page at a featured pump. It was pieced of patent leather and suede with spikes attached to the back. I looked to the shoe as an example and said, "Take this shoe as a dining room chair. You could upholster the seat and seat back in the patent leather, so that it's easy to clean. Cover the back of the chair in the suede and apply the spikes as a decorative touch to give it an edge."

Dsquared² Pillows

How about a little runway fashion for some home goods inspiration? Dsquared² always delivers high fashion, high energy, high glamour looks that I covet each season. I've taken some looks from the women's Spring Summer 2013 show and created some pillows to toughen up every glamour girl's bedroom.

Style: Boogie Nights

 

Since we are on the subject of the seventies, and I haven't done a fashion feature in a while, let's get sexy for some Boogie Nights!

I'm in love with this Gucci Aristographic Glittered Plexiglass Clutch! It wreaks of excess which is what disco was all about. The application of glitter on the plexiglass reminds me of some piece of delightfully tacky seventies furniture or art.

It's that time of year again! The Autumn-Winter 2014 Fashion Shows are invading the runways. I always check out my favorite shows first (DSquared!). But, I was pleasantly surprised to find a new brand to covet - Andrea Pompilio.

Music: Beyoncé

 
We interrupt 2013 to bring you Beyoncé. Mrs. Carter dropped her fifth (visual) album directly to iTunes last week - a complete surprise to both her fans and the industry.
 
"I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it,” she said. “I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”
 

Burberry Heart-Print Cotton T-Shirt

Bestow my heart, literally. This "Heart-Print Cotton T-Shirt" from Burberry is my favorite piece of fashion from 2013.

It also came in a sweater (and a button down for the ladies), but the tee is simple with just enough punch. And you know I'm a sucker for Romance.

Style: Ruby Red Slippers

 

True, the "slippers" you are about to see from Christian Louboutin are much more modern day interpretations of The Wizard of Oz's infamous ruby red slippers. But, nevertheless still inspired by this iconic shoe.

Style: The Tin Man

Knit pants (or sweat pants for the style challenged) are my new favorite staple. I've been wearing mine a lot lately with a plain v-neck tee, black high tops and a strand of wooden beads doubled around my neck. It's not an easy look to pull off without looking like you've just rolled out of bed.

While searching Net-A-Porter for Queen of Hearts inspired goods, I came across this amazing Lanvin pin and just had to give it some individual attention.

There is no better Tom for my celebration of all things Tom than Mr. Tom Ford. To say that I am completely in love with everything that this man does is an understatement. Although I am not financially established enough (yet) to don his designs from head to toe, I take any piece of him I can get (glasses, sunglasses, books, fragrances).
