Wild Inside: Royal Mansour Hotel

This is probably the most luxurious state of Wild that you will ever see (through photos) in your lifetime. The Royal Mansour Hotel has been described as the "most opulent and extravagant hotel in the world".

The Royal Mansour is more than just a hotel, it is the embodiment of Moroccan living as an art form. Mansour is located on several acres of land within the walls of the old city of Marrakech. It is designed like an old Moroccan city with winding paths lined with fragrant and beautiful horticulture that open into courtyards and public spaces like lounges, bars, the library, the spa (surrounded by a moat), and all three of it's restaurants. Each one of the restaurants is overseen by Yannick Alleno, the chef of Paris' Le Meurice Hotel.

Mansour was made by 1,200 artisans using the finest specimens of marble, stone, tiles, silk, satins, feathers, and cedar. That description alone is enough to feast your eyes on without any photos needed.

As you can imagine it must have been quite a budget to complete such a marvel of a hotel. But, there was no budget involved. Only royal edicit to make the most beautiful example of Moroccan architecture in the world.

And you shouldn't have a budget in mind if you plan on visiting. Rooms begin with a one bedroom three-story traditional Moroccan house at $1,928 a night and finish at $38,552 a night for their twenty-thousand square foot Riad d'Honneur.

With those prices come expected luxuries. You'll feel quite relaxed with amenities like personal butlers, walk-in wardrobes, roof terraces with lounge tents and plunge pools, in-suite libraries, sliding glass roofs, and the Riad d'Honneur is set amongst its own gardens. Is this a hotel or heaven?

The wild and detailed style of Moroccan culture has always captured my interest as a designer. I love the feeling of history behind details like intricate tile work, arches, carvings, and stone work. I often wonder if "Villa Amante" will one day be in this style.
