Music: Welcome to the Jungle

Since August is one of the last months on summer (depending on how global warming has affected where you live), we are going to get wild! Shifting the focus from Romance to everything tropical with just a touch of jungle fever!

What better anthem to welcome you to this wild month than Guns N' Roses "Welcome to the Jungle"?

I went into my research on this song thinking that it was a metaphor for drugs, like every metal song seems to be. Some twisted tale about rehab, or hookers at after parties, or both. But, that wasn't the case at all.

According to one interview, Axl Rose (Lead Vocalist) wrote the song while visiting a long-time friend in Washington. Really? The lyrics are said to be about both that rural town outside of Seattle and "about Hollywood streets; true to life".

The video was a tough sell for record companies. They eventually had to convince MTV to play the video once at 5AM on a Sunday morning. But that's all it needed for viewers to start calling in and requesting more.

Rock on with Axl and the rest of the band below. And get ready to get wild in August!
