In a very close second for my favorite artist of all time, Rihanna embraces everything that I love about music. She's a fashion heavy hitter, she breaks the mold, she puts out really good music and she's Unapologetic about it all.
Which makes it the perfect title for her seventh studio album. An album that she is still releasing singles from over a year later! While everyone is putting out new material, Rihanna is still celebrating the musical genius of this album. It's no wonder she was just named an icon at the American Music Awards.
Probably her most notable musical contribution for 2013 is the much talked about video for "Pour It Up".
When a song celebrates living a decadent lifestyle at the strip club over dollar bills and tequila shots, you expect nothing less than a racy, controversial video. And Rihanna delivered.
Using some of the greatest strippers as extras (probably of Atlanta fame) she sits a top a throne clad in Chanel and dollar bills. She also participates in some stripper antics but leaves the amazing acrobatic skills to the professionals.
Rolling Stone said the video which is not of "high art certainly matches the lavish strip-club exploits referenced in the song." Isn't that what music videos are for?
