Inside by Tom: The Tokyo Hipsters Club

I can't tell you how much I love the leather punching bag in this space. Very masculine. In fact, that was the idea.

The Tokyo Hipsters Club is the first project that Tom Dixon's Design Research Studio created. It couldn't have been a better fit for this team since the store is based on the concept of "aristocracy gone wrong". Read more about Tom Dixon here and you'll understand that reference.

Dixon envisions the space as traditional British Gentleman's club meets modern Japanese fashion. This creates opportunities for items like stained glass and punching bags to sit alongside clean lines and industrial fixtures.

He describes it himself as a "pleasantly brutal space...a piece of architecture by a non architect."

The store itself specializes in both new and used clothing, a collection of art from artists like The Beat Generation and Che Guevara, music and coffee table books.
